PRESS RELEASE/PRESS RELEASE/PRESS RELEASE

Cooperstown--9 November 2011

In a stunning rebuke to the local Republican party, Sustainable Otsego and other anti-fracking candidates won most of their races in Otsego County yesterday.

According to unofficial returns, 7 of 11 Sustainable Otsego candidates won. Of the remaining candidates endorsed by Sustainable Otsego, 13 won and 12 lost.

The biggest sweep occurred in the pivotal Town of Otsego, where John Kosmer, Bennett Sandler, and Julie Huntsman defeated Republicans James Johnson, Bill Michaels, and John Schallert.

Huntsman and Sandler's nearly 2-1 landslide victories were particularly notable, while Johnson's loss to Kosmer derailed the career of the County Board's Vice-Chairman and Republican rising star.

Beth Rosenthal carried Middlefield, Roseboom, and Cherry Valley to win a County Board seat, and incumbent Rich Murphy was returned in the Town of Oneonta. These Sustainable Otsego/Democratic wins, along with those of Democrats endorsed by Sustainable Otsego -- Rothenberger, Stulligross, Koutnik, and Rowinski in Oneonta -- reduced the once-Republican dominated County Board to 7 Democrats and 7 Republicans. Republicans will continue to hold the edge, however, due to weighted voting.

Chris Harmon won an important victory as Supervisor in the Town of Milford.

In spite of valiant efforts, however, Barb Monroe failed to carry Milford, Hartwick, and New Lisbon for the County Board, and Teresa Wincester failed in her bid to unseat pro-driller James Powers to represent Butternuts, Morris, and Pittsfield on the County Board.

These are unofficial results and subject to correction.

Congratulations to our friends who today have aW or an L next to their name. You ran great races. There are some towns who really believe in the past and leave everything as is. As the next few years will show, the candidates that were not voted for, were in fact the very ones who were needed. Congrats to Sustainable Otsego for all you have done. Keep up your informative info.
